This film was made in the mid 1960s to explain the advances in cockpit technology that would have been incorporated in the Boeing SST Super Sonic Transport, had the aircraft actual gone ahead with manufacture.
Back in the mid 1960s Boeing was considering competing with the French-Angle Concorde in developing their own SST, which would have actually been larger than the Concorde.
But Boeing ultimately decided the project did not warrant their effort and instead put their resources into the 747 development, which we now know with hindsight was the correct strategic decision.
This video is geared for pilots and presents technical details on the functions of the VASI and other developing technology of the day. The highlight of the film for airline freaks would be the Boeing 707 or 720 testbed which makes a brief appearance.
