Flying the Interavia Ilyushin IL-62M - Russia Aviation Holiday 2008 Part 1In this day and age, the one and only option to get a passenger flight on an IL-62 is to visit North Korea and fly on Air Koryo domestically as part of an organized aviation tour. But back in 2008, there was another option, albeit short lived. In Russia you could fly on Interavia’s IL-62M, and JetFlix TV videographer Chris Mak filmed a flight on this aircraft from Moscow Domodedovo airport to Magadan, with a flight duration of some 7.5 hours across almost the same number of time zones.

This particular IL-62M RA-86577 was originally delivered to Interflug, the State airline of East Germany on June 30, 1987. The sounds of the IL-62’s four rear mounted engines is pure magic to the ears, and in this video were can savour all aspects of the flight, from engine start, taxi, take-off, to inflight, let down and landing. With generous amounts of both interior and wing view footage and exterior footage of the aircraft on the move during taxi and take-off, those craving IL-62 live aircraft footage will be more than satisfied.

Video footage of Interavia’s IL-62M is mega rare, and JetFlix.TV members can watch the whole show along with the other two episodes of the three part mini series “Russia Aviation Holiday 2008”, which must-watch viewing for any hard-core fan of Soviet era classic jetliners.
