US Navy F9F Panther Photo Recon Pilot Korea War 1953 movie on JetFlix TV

This 25 minute US Navy publicity film dates from 1953, and it tells the story of what is involved in being a photo recon pilot flying the Grumman F9F Panther during the Korean War.

The film opens with introduction to the VC61 Composite Squadron at NAS Miramar in San Diego, California where the new F9F pilots are introduced to the requirements and challenges of being a photo recon pilot, which is seemingly every bit as dangerous and complicated as engaging in air to air combat and dropping bombs.

The film then takes the viewer to aircraft carrier training ops for pilot training and then live missions over Korea during the time of the Korean War. As a camera jock, photographing the ground is instrumental in learning intelligence data on enemy positions and capabilities.

The colour footage of the US Navy F9F Panthers air-to-air and the carrier footage is really fantastic. When you add in the campy dialogue this makes for a very entertaining film.
