Boeing 747-400 Upper Deck Experience Lufthansa – Part 1

Details

Welcome to a JetFlix TV exclusive: This is a five part mini series on the Boeing 747-400 upper deck experience. JetFlix TV founder Henry Tenby filmed this series to take the viewer for an immersive, in-depth look at Lufthansa’s Boeing 747-400 upper deck travel experience.

In 2017, the Boeing 747-400 was retired by both United Airlines and Delta Airlines, leaving the US with no home-based Boeing 747 front line operators. The Boeing 747 has been in continuous use in the US since it first entered service back in 1970, which is quite an accomplishment for an aircraft. We did not want to seek out an upper deck flight on a Boeing 747-8 as we wanted to keep the experience as authentic to the original product as we possibly could. With Lufthansa operating their 747-400s on the Vancouver-Frankfurt run (in the Fall of 2017), this seemed like the perfect opportunity for us to sample their service. It was a paramount requirement to travel in the upper deck of the aircraft, with a window seat in both directions, of course!

In this first video of the series, we start our journey with breakfast, coffee and relaxing in the Lufthansa Business Class lounge at Frankfurt Airport. We then head down to the gate and join the other passengers as the aircraft is towed to gate and prepared for our flight. The video then proceeds with our boarding of the aircraft, taking our seat and then paying close attention to the pre flight safety briefing. We were blessed with a lovely sunny morning for our Frankfurt departure, and this segment shows our taxi out to the take-off runway, which is followed by our departure and climb to cruising altitude. Be sure to watch the continuation of this film in part 2.

Great experience. Just looked up on Lufthansa website. Seems like the 747-400 will still be flying this summer, 2018!

It is well worth making the effort to fly on Lufthansa 747-400s while they are still around. They are an excellent aircraft, and a classic in the sense that they are not new generation. I heard these aircraft might be around for a few more years because they are paid for, and the cost of fuel is relatively low.

That’s been a while Patricia, but you can still have a nice ride on a 747-400 with Lufthansa, as they have put them back in service post pandemic, which is really amazing. They did not bring back the A380s. Speaks to the amazing capabilities of the 747 workhorse.
