Manx BAe ATP flight Belfast Nuts Corner to Manchester

Details

On June 30, 1996, JetFlix founder Henry Tenby had the once -in-a-lifetime opportunity to fly on a British Aerospace ATP, which was the 1990s derivative of the very popular Hawker Siddeley HS748.

The night of June 29/30 Henry had flown from Coventry to Belfast on the Air Bridge Hunting Vickers Vanguard, a flight which was arranged as a cargo operational familiarization flight by Reed Aviation in Coventry. (At the time, Henry was a manager with NWT Air in Yellowknife, which was also very much involved in the transport of bulk cargo.) As a side note, that Vanguard flight is also available as a streaming film on JetFlix TV.

As Henry was offloaded from the Vickers Vanguard in Belfast, it was necessary to use the commercial airlines to fly back to Coventry. A ticket was purchased on British Airways, and as explained in this video, due to an equipment change, Manx ended up operating their ATP G-BUUP on the flight, and needless to say, Henry was pleased as punch to be able to secure an ATP sector for his logbook.

The ATP flight left Belfast Nuts Corner at 1225 and touched down at Manchester 1308 for a total air time of just 43 minutes. This was of course in the years before the internet, but even back then, Henry well appreciated the importance of documenting airliner rides on video, so that such experiences could be shared and appreciated in future years.

We hope you enjoy this video, which conveys what it was like to fly as a passenger on a BA ATP airliners. As for G-BUUP, the aircraft was returned to British Aerospace by Manx in March of 2001, and then converted to cargo and delivered to Atlantic Airlines in June of 2008. Then in March of 2016 the ATP cargo aircraft was delivered to West Air Sweden as SE-MHD, which is the aircraft’s most current operator.
