LAP Air Paraguay: On Board the DC-8-63

On November 21, 1992, airline videographer Henry Tenby flew aboard LAP Air Paraguay DC-8-63 from Santiago, Chile. Which over the snow-capped Andes, to Asuncion, Paraguay.

Further this thirty-six minute program takes the viewer along for the ride, enjoying take-off, in-flight, and landing from the very best seat in the house, just forward of the engines.

In addition to onboard footage, this program also presents exterior footage of noisy engine starts, push back, taxi, and take-off.

LAP Air Paraguay DC-8-63 came from Air Canada in the mid-1980s, which earlier upgraded with a wide-body interior.

    Nice video. Looks like LAP just changed the tail – the fuselage looks standard Air Canada from the period. The Super 60’s were really nice, but no quieter than the -50’s; the -70’s were the quieter ones after they were re-engine. Thanks, Henry. Really enjoyed this one (I worked for Braniff in the ’70’s – we had the DC8-62’s to South America).

      Thank you Jeffrey! I was thrilled to get that flight on the LAP DC-8-63. Had several flights on the LAP 707 but just on the Stretch Eight. It was amazing how empty the flight was .. such a big plane and massive fuel burn for a handful of people. It was a huge effort to do these LAP flights back in 1992. I recall classic 707 and DC-8s are already retired in North America so you had to go to South America where just a few airlines in Peru, Uruguay and Paraguay were still running the old coal burners. Good memories those trips!
