Welcome to the part 2 continuation of the JetFlix TV visit to Berlin’s famous Tegel Airport. Located a 20 minute bus ride’s distance from the Berlin central Hauptbahnhoff, the airport is extremely convenient for tourists and business visitors alike. Bus service between the airport and city centre operates every ten to fifteen minutes.
For spotters Berlin Tegel is one of the best airports in the world to visit to soak up the non-stop action. However there is no covered area on the observation deck, which spans the entire roof of the terminal building, so you will want to be sure to bring a hat or umbrella to protect against rain and/or sun. During our visit the largest aircraft were the United 767, Turkish A330 and Lufthansa A340.
There is nothing overly exotic that we saw during our afternoon on the deck, but the superb view and ease of access make for a very pleasant location for spotters. A totally unobstructed view of the runway is a very nice bonus, because some airport observation decks provide nice apron and gate views but are miles away from the runway action. At the Berlin Tegel observation deck you will never miss a runway arrival or departure.
Aside from the airport, visitors will find a stay in Berlin extremely rewarding from a tourist perspective. We would recommend allocating at least 3-4 days for a Berlin visit if you want to be able to see a good share of the sights and fabulous museums, many of which are about the region’s history relative to the terrors of World War Two and the post-war East German communist period during the time of the Berlin Wall.
