The final approach at Maho Beach in St. Maarten is one of the most photogenic plane spotting locations in the world. The location has become something of an internet sensation as photos of aircraft very low in the approach over the the jam-packed beach frequently appear online and in news reports.

St. Maarten is a costly destination to visit for holiday purposes, and a good portion of the visitors to the Island arrive by cruise ship, as the Island is a popular destination on the Caribbean cruise ship circuit. We had the good fortune to visit Maho Beach on June 18, 2016, while on a Caribbean cruise aboard Carnival Fascination.

Further Our St. Maarten visit was one of our hottest days on the cruise, and even though we limited our Maho Beach visit to the morning, and arrived at the beach early but it was still over-poweringly hot. This video also shows pretty much every single aircraft movement that took place at SMX that morning between 9 am and 12 noon (with exception to the biz jet movements and occasional light aircraft movements).
