Welcome to this JetFlix exclusive featuring the Trans Canada Airlines Lockheed Super Constellation.

Cine film footage of TCA Connies is extremely rare.

The material presented here represents the entire TCA Connie holding that exists within the Air Canada archives. It is digitized in Ottawa, back in 2012.

The first five minutes of this Canada Air Lines Lockheed Super Constellation show, presents passenger boarding and taxi sequences filmed in 16mm colour, and black and white, shot most likely in Montreal and Toronto, circa 1954.

Sadly, the Lockheed air-to-air reels not contained within Air Canada’s archives, so they were most likely discarded, or lost, decades ago.

By 1951 the North Star had gone out of manufacture, so TCA turned to Lockheed. Staring in 1954, TCA took delivery of 14 Super Connies to fuel their long haul fleet growth.

It was economically attractive as the Super Connie’s engines are more advanced in their development life, than the Merlin engines of the Northstar.

The Super Connies replaced Northstars on the Trans Atlantic immediately. Relegating NorthStars to domestic flying and cargo duties.

The Super Connies reduced the trans-con journey time by 2 hours, quicker than the NorthStars.

Super Connies were TCA’s North Atlantic transports until the arrival of the first DC-8s in the early 60s. The last TCA Super Constellation was retired in January, 1962.

The main feature of this show is a 16 minute, Lockheed produced, promo film on the Super Constellation.
