LOT Polish IL-62 SP-LAA | Massive 1/48 Iron Curtain Model

Details

This rare sheet-metal display model is believed to have been produced in Eastern Europe during the Soviet era and represents one of the most impressive IL-62 airline display models ever created. Today, surviving examples are exceptionally difficult to find, and most are found in heavily damaged condition due to their fragile sheet-metal construction.

This particular model has undergone a painstaking multi-year museum-grade restoration involving well over 100 hours of labor, including extensive bodywork, refinishing, professional painting, decals, and high-grade automotive clear coating.

Henry also discusses the fascinating history of LOT Polish Airlines’ IL-62 fleet, including the story of SP-LAA, the very first IL-62 delivered to LOT in 1972, and the aircraft’s tragic fate in 1980.

Topics covered in this video:

• History of the Ilyushin IL-62
• LOT Polish Airlines’ long-haul operations in the 1970s
• Soviet-era airline display models
• Extensive restoration techniques
• Museum-grade aircraft model preservation
• Henry’s personal experiences flying aboard Air Koryo IL-62 aircraft in North Korea

This model is currently available for acquisition by a serious aviation collector, museum, or Soviet-era airline enthusiast.
