Owned by Air Canada, zip started flight operations on September 22, 2002, as the carrier’s Calgary-based, low-cost operation targeted against arch-rival WestJet in Western Canada. Harking back to the lavish colours of Dallas based Braniff International, zip also painted their fleet of Boeing 737-200s in bright paste colours. We can now look back and say that during zip’s amazing two years of operations, it was certainly the end of the plain plane in Canada.

Calgary-based aviation videographer Anthony Hickey put great efforts into filming the ZIP Boeing 73 fleets, and this 88 minute movie presents an comprehensive all-season round-up of zip’s Calgary flight activity.

Professionally shot, this zip airline movie takes the viewer up close and personal with ZIP Boeing 737-200s with plenty of push-backs from the gate, taxi sequences, take-offs, approaches, and landings filmed airside, with live Air Traffic Control audio. You’ll see heaps of zip Boeing 737 jet action in all weather conditions.

Zip’s very last day of operations was on Tuesday, September 7, 2004. On this special day, a zip 737-200 last-ever fly-past flight took place, in cooperation with Vancouver ATC. As the last ever two zip scheduled flights were landing at YVR that sunny Tuesday morning, two of zip 737s performed a classic flypast at Vancouver’s runway 08R at 400 knots, in battle formation.

The Vancouver Airport Fire Brigade performed a water cannon salutes as the last zip Boeing 737-200s taxied under the spray, marking the end of zip’s operations. All of which is captured in this movie!

Total runtime: 88 minutes
