For the past several years I have been trying to document the final operational Convair 580 and Convair 5800 freighters in Canada, knowing that their days were rapidly drawing to a close.

When I filmed one of these classic aircraft at Victoria International Airport a year ago, I believed retirement was only weeks away. Yet on June 8, 2026, I was fortunate enough to once again witness one of these magnificent propliner aircraft being loaded and departing Victoria on a wet and rainy day.

However, this may truly be the end.

With KF Cargo’s third ATR72 freighter expected to enter service imminently, the remaining Convair 5800 is widely believed to be only days away from permanent retirement. When that happens, one of the most iconic chapters in Canadian cargo aviation will officially come to a close.

This video documents what could very well be one of the final Convair departures ever seen at Victoria International Airport and perhaps one of the last operational Convair flights in Canada.
